I’m a lifelong artist, but it was a journey to here. I started drawing and painting at a young age, and by the time I was a teenager, I had grand notions of being a fashion designer. I graduated with a graphic design degree from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and worked as a graphic designer for 10 years. However, I found my true creative calling the day my friend taught me to crochet, and then to knit.
I had the privilege of working my dream job at my favorite local yarn shop for 5 years, teaching and helping match people to yarn and projects. I then moved on to another (now my current) dream job of designing knitwear. I design custom knitwear for anyone who wants a little something special, and publish designs on Ravelry under Elizabeth Kay Booth. I also opened an Etsy shop, which I hope to continue expanding.
Aside from self-publishing, I have been commissioned to design knit and crochet patterns for the annual LA Yarn Crawl. I spent a year on the board of our local knitting guild, Knerdy Knitters. I have also produced designs for various yarn companies. Zen Yarn Garden is currently representing one of my pieces at various appearances and trunk shows. I collaborated with Colinton Australia on a series of knitwear designs which appeared in the TNNA fashion show and at Vogue Knitting Live. Brown Sheep Company also features a personal favorite of my designs.
Other tidbits about me – I love to read, my favorite topics being fashion, design and designers, art, and biographies of favorite artists. I am based in Los Angeles and never take for granted that I live in an inspiring city surrounded by either the ocean or mountains. If I’m not making something with yarn, it is to be in nature, preferably in the ocean or on a mountaintop. I also take breaks from my yarn to spend time with my husband, 2 children, 2 rescue cats, and a rescue dog.
